Most expense apps make you tap through forms, dropdowns, and category pickers. Today Expenses works like a paper notebook. Each day has a page. You write a line like “coffee 4.50” or “dinner with Sarah 34”, and on-device AI extracts the category and amount in the background. There is no setup, no budgets to configure, and no account to create.
Do I need to set up budgets or categories before I can start?
No. Open the app, write your first line, and you are tracking. Categories are detected automatically by the on-device AI. If a category is wrong you can tap the record and change it.
Is my financial data private and secure?
Yes. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no third-party servers. Your records are stored locally on your device and synced privately to your other Apple devices using your own iCloud account via Apple’s CloudKit. Today Expenses cannot see your data.
Does the app work offline?

No. Apple Intelligence is optional. The Pre-Trained Model works on every iPhone running iOS 26 or later, with or without Apple Intelligence, and is fast enough to categorise as you type.
What happens after the 24-hour free period?
After 24 hours new users can choose Monthly at $3.99 per month, with a 3-day free trial for eligible users, or Yearly at $14.99 per year. No card is required for the 24-hour period.
Can I edit records if the AI gets something wrong?
Yes. Tap any record to open the editor and change the category, amount, currency, or date. Manual edits are saved immediately and sync via iCloud.
Does it sync across my devices?
Yes. Today Expenses uses Apple’s CloudKit to sync privately across all Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account. There are no Today Expenses servers in the path.
