This Privacy Policy explains what information Today Expenses collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.

1. Overview

Today Expenses is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your financial data never leaves your own private iCloud account. We do not operate servers, we do not collect analytics, and we do not sell or share your data with third parties.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

Today Expenses does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

  • Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
  • Your financial records or transaction history
  • Your location
  • Your device information or usage analytics
  • Any data entered into the app

We have no backend servers and no database of user information.

3. Data Stored on Your Device

All data you enter into Today Expenses, including expense records, income records, categories, settings, and preferences, is stored locally on your device using SwiftData, Apple’s on-device database framework. This data never passes through our systems.

4. iCloud Sync

Today Expenses uses Apple’s CloudKit private database to sync your data across your devices. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, which is private to you. Apple’s privacy policy governs how iCloud stores and protects your data. We cannot access your iCloud data.

iCloud sync requires that you are signed in to an iCloud account on your device. If you sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for Today Expenses, your data will remain on your device locally but will not sync across devices.

5. AI Models and On-Device Processing

Today Expenses supports two on-device AI models to analyse the text you type when creating a record. This analysis extracts the category and amount from your natural language input.

Apple Foundation Models — powered by Apple Intelligence, available on supported devices. Processing happens entirely on-device using Apple Intelligence. Your input text is never sent to any server. Apple’s privacy policy governs the on-device AI system.

Pre-Trained Model — a lightweight text classifier built specifically for Today Expenses and trained on 16,700 expense and income notes across 71 categories. It was trained exclusively on curated sample data. We do not access your data and it will never be used to train or improve any model. Processing happens entirely on-device.

Both models run locally on your device. Your text is never sent to any server, ours or anyone else’s.

6. Widgets

Today Expenses offers home screen and lock screen widgets including Today Balance, Today Records, This Week, This Month, 6 Month Overview, Spending Calendar, Streak, Category Breakdown, and more. Widget data is read directly from your local SwiftData store and your private iCloud data. No widget data is transmitted externally.

7. Subscriptions and Purchases

Subscription purchases and billing are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive confirmation of your subscription status from Apple but do not receive your payment details, credit card information, or billing address. Apple’s privacy policy governs all payment processing.

8. Third-Party Services

Today Expenses does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or data collection services. The only external systems the app interacts with are:

  • Apple iCloud — for private data sync
  • Apple App Store — for subscription management
  • Apple Foundation Models and Pre-Trained Model — for on-device AI processing (no data leaves the device)

9. Children’s Privacy

Today Expenses is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

Since all your data is stored on your device and in your private iCloud account, you have full control over it at all times. To delete your data:

  • Use the Clear My Data option inside the app under Settings. This permanently deletes all your records and data from both your device and your iCloud account instantly.
  • Delete individual records within the app at any time.
  • Delete the app from your device to remove all local data.

We do not retain any copies of your data.

11. Security

Your data is protected by Apple’s built-in device encryption and iCloud security measures. We strongly recommend enabling a device passcode and two-factor authentication on your Apple ID to protect your iCloud data.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will indicate the date of the most recent update at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
